ZFR strength rating

Who is strongest right now — the bouts decide. Every bout won at a tournament lifts you up the table, and the stronger the opponent, the bigger the rise. A rating of its own for every weapon, for men and for women.

How it works

  1. The rating counts only the bouts of tournaments published on ZenFencing: competitions that are not on the platform do not enter it. Every bout updates both fencers: winning against a stronger opponent moves the number more than winning against a weaker one.
  2. A new fencer starts at 1500. While the rating rests on a small number of bouts it is shown with a question mark ("1650?") — provisional. Athletes without bouts for over a year disappear from the public tables; their rating stays and returns with the next tournament.
  3. Age groups are not separated: one scale for everyone, so a cadet and a veteran who fence each other are compared directly. Federations, clubs and regions are filters over the same calculation, not separate ratings.
  4. The rating is new: for a while, as more tournaments are added, we will be refining the algorithm and its settings. After each refinement the rating is recalculated over the whole history of bouts, so the numbers may change.
